Gavin Buckley, Candidate for Anne Arundel County Council District 6, Qualifies for Public Finance
Buckley’s campaign submitted its first finance report on April 14th with over $14,000 raised from more than 100 individual, small donations from County residents.
ANNAPOLIS, MD (May 11, 2026) Former Mayor of Annapolis, Gavin Buckley, announced today that his campaign, “Gavin Buckley for Anne Arundel”, has been successful in qualifying for Public Finance under rules established by the State of Maryland and Anne Arundel County.
Buckley filed as a candidate for Anne Arundel County Council District 6 on February 11 and publicly launched his campaign on February 17. At the time, he announced his intention to run under the Public Financing Program established by Anne Arundel County. This program prohibits donations from businesses, corporations, PACs, unions and other organizations. Only donations from individuals are permitted – up to a maximum of $250 per person for the four-year election cycle. Buckley is the only candidate for County Council District 6 to run under the Public Finance Program.
“I chose to run under Public Financing because I believe it’s more important now than ever, to live by the values we want to see in our politics,” Buckley said. “We know that big money is changing the political landscape across the country, so it was very important to me to demonstrate my commitment to transparency and accountability. Public financing was one clear way I could do that and show that I will be accountable to county residents, not developers, or businesses, or any other organisation.”
Under the County’s rules, candidates for County Council qualify for public funds in a formula that matches a portion of each qualifying donation, provided they raise a minimum of 75 individual donations from County residents and a minimum of $7,500 in total within the qualifying period. At the time of filing on April 14th, Buckley’s campaign reported raising more than $14,000 in small donations from more than 100 individual county residents.
“The rules of public financing are rigorous to ensure that only candidates with broad support from County residents are able to access public funds”, Buckley said. “ I’m truly grateful and humbled that in less than two months of outreach, my campaign received such depth of public support. It makes me more determined than ever to put my skills, experience and values to work for the residents of District 6.”
